BTX in Singapore — A Physician's Guide to Natural-Looking Results

6 July 2026 5 min read Dr. Sin Yong

BTX (botulinum toxin) is the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure globally. Yet results range from completely natural to frozen and expressionless — and the difference is almost entirely due to clinical skill and philosophy, not the product. Dr. Sin Yong's guide to what BTX does, how he uses it, and what distinguishes natural from over-treated results.

How BTX Works and Why Results Vary

BTX works by blocking the neuromuscular junction — temporarily reducing specific muscle contraction and allowing overlying skin creases to relax. When placed correctly and in appropriate doses, the result is softer expression lines while preserving natural movement. When over-dosed or misplaced, the result is the characteristic frozen appearance: a forehead that cannot raise, eyebrows that cannot lift, a face that cannot convey emotion. This is not a property of BTX — it is a consequence of imprecise or excessive application.

Dr. Sin Yong's Approach — Restraint and Precision

Dr. Sin Yong's fundamental principle with BTX is that less is more. He uses the minimum effective dose to achieve natural-looking softening of expression lines — preserving movement and expression. He performs a careful assessment of each patient's muscle activity and facial dynamics before determining placement and dosage. The goal is never to eliminate movement — it is to reduce the degree of creasing during movement.

BTX Uses Beyond Wrinkles

BTX has significant applications beyond expression lines: jaw slimming (masseter reduction) for patients with a wide lower face or clenching; hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating); neck band softening; lip flip for subtle enhancement; and brow lifting and shaping. Dr. Sin Yong will discuss all appropriate applications at your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not with Dr. Sin Yong's approach. His philosophy is restraint — using the minimum effective dose to achieve natural softening, never a frozen or expressionless result.

Most patients return every 3–4 months. With consistent treatment over time, the muscles often weaken progressively, extending the interval between sessions.

BTX has an excellent long-term safety record when used by qualified physicians. It has been used in medical practice since the 1980s and its aesthetic safety profile across decades of use is well established.

BTX can be combined with many treatments and is commonly performed on the same visit as Profhilo, laser treatments or the RVR ProLift. Dr. Sin Yong will advise on optimal sequencing.

Masseter BTX involves injecting the masseter muscle to reduce its bulk. This produces a slimmer, more defined lower face over 4–8 weeks. Results last 4–6 months initially, extending with regular treatment.
