HIFU Singapore · HIFU Face Lifting · Skin Tightening
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound for SMAS-layer facial lifting, skin tightening and collagen stimulation, planned individually at Atelier Aesthetics.
The Science
HIFU in Singapore is often sold as a standalone facial. At Atelier Aesthetics it is used as one component of a planned lifting protocol.
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) delivers precisely focused ultrasound energy to the SMAS layer — the same deep fascial layer that surgeons target in a traditional facelift. This causes immediate tissue contraction and triggers a wound-healing response that generates new collagen over the following weeks.
HIFU passes through the skin surface and heats tissue at set depths of 1.5 mm, 3 mm and 4.5 mm, leaving the surface largely untouched. The result is progressive lifting and tightening with no cuts and usually little downtime.
At Atelier Aesthetics, focused ultrasound is one of several lifting tools; Dr. Sin Yong chooses between it, radiofrequency and laser protocols according to where the laxity sits.
What HIFU Treats
Beyond Standard HIFU
The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift is Dr. Sin Yong's fully customised non-surgical facelift protocol — pioneered by Dr. Sin Yong and presented at the CLASSYS APAC 2026 International Conference. It uses volumetric radiofrequency rather than focused ultrasound, planned zone by zone; for some faces it is an alternative to HIFU, for others a complement.
Focused ultrasound tightens tissue that is still there. Where descent is advanced, no energy device matches a surgical result.
At Atelier both HIFU and the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift are planned to the individual face; the difference is the energy used and the tissue it reaches.
VF Lift – Vertical Facelift and HIFU: How They Differ
In Depth
Focused ultrasound works like a magnifying glass for sound. A transducer brings ultrasound energy to a point a set distance below the skin, where it heats tissue enough to create tiny zones of thermal coagulation, while the tissue between that point and the surface is left largely untouched. Laboratory work on facial tissue showed that these zones can be placed in the SMAS, the fibrous layer lifted in a surgical facelift, and in the deep dermis. [1,2]
In a rater-blinded study of facial and neck tightening, blinded clinicians judged most treated patients improved at 90 days, and the average brow lift measured on photographs was under 2 mm. [3] That is the fair frame for HIFU: real, gradual and modest, and better matched to early laxity than to heavy sagging.
Who suits it: people with mild to moderate laxity of the jawline, lower face, under the chin or brow, with enough soft tissue for the energy to work in. Who usually does not: very thin faces with little fat, where deep heating can make hollows look more obvious; heavy skin folds; and faces whose main change is volume loss rather than looseness. [4]

| Option | How it works | Usually matched to |
|---|---|---|
| HIFU | Focused ultrasound at set depths | Early laxity of the jawline, brow and under the chin |
| VF Lift – Vertical Facelift | Volumetric monopolar radiofrequency, zone by zone | Laxity spread across the lower face and midface |
| Thread lift | Absorbable threads give a mechanical lift | Wanting a visible change on the day |
| Cheek filler | Volume placed deep, on bone | A flat or deflated midface |
| Surgical facelift | Deeper tissue repositioned, skin removed | Heavy folds and advanced descent |
HIFU tightens tissue that is still there. It does not add volume, and where descent is advanced no energy device matches a surgical result.

Warning signs. Contact the clinic if you notice blistering, a burn mark, weakness of the smile, or a change in sensation that is not improving.
