SAM Conference 2026
Second Gen Microwave Technology

Invited speaker at the Society of Aesthetic Medicine (Singapore) annual meeting, presenting microwave body contouring on the HIRONIC MIGLOU™ platform within a multi-modality session.

At the SAM Conference 2026 — the annual meeting of the Society of Aesthetic Medicine (Singapore), held at PARKROYAL on Beach Road on 25 and 26 July — Dr. Sin Yong presented Second Gen Microwave Technology for Body Contouring on the HIRONIC MIGLOU™ platform, distributed in Singapore by IDSmed.

The session was not built around a single device. It surveyed body contouring across several modalities, with each speaker taking one — Dr. Lim Tingsong and Dr. Elias Tam presented on others. That structure is the useful one. A single-device talk tells an audience what a machine does; putting several modalities side by side forces the harder question of which suits which presentation, and on what basis you choose between them.

The physics is where it starts. Radiofrequency, focused ultrasound, cryolipolysis and microwave energy each interact with tissue by a different route — they deposit energy in different places. Radiofrequency puts much of its energy into the dermis, which is what you want when the target is collagen. Move up to the microwave band, around 2.45 GHz, and the absorption profile changes: energy is taken up preferentially by adipose tissue. Add contact cooling and the skin surface is held down while the energy works beneath it.

That gives three tissues in one delivery — the membranes of subcutaneous fat cells, the connective septa between adipose lobules whose tethering produces the dimpled surface, and dermal collagen as a secondary response rather than the primary target. On the face, the finer handpiece changes the target again: not a fat compartment but dermal collagen, at a shallower depth with tighter control.

None of which tells you whether it suits any particular person. Body contouring is an area where patients are too often offered whichever device a clinic happens to own. Knowing how the modalities differ is what lets the conversation start with the anatomy instead.

The Session, in Brief

Microwave Body Contouring
Second Gen Microwave Technology for Body Contouring, on the HIRONIC MIGLOU™ platform, as part of a multi-modality body contouring session at the Society of Aesthetic Medicine (Singapore) annual meeting, held at PARKROYAL on Beach Road on 25 and 26 July 2026.
Radiofrequency deposits much of its energy in the dermis, which suits collagen as a target. Microwave energy at around 2.45 GHz is absorbed preferentially by adipose tissue, so with contact cooling holding the skin surface down, the energy works beneath it on fat rather than on the dermis.
The membranes of subcutaneous fat cells, the connective septa between adipose lobules whose tethering produces the dimpled surface of cellulite, and dermal collagen as a secondary response rather than the primary target.
Yes. A finer handpiece changes the target from a fat compartment to dermal collagen, working at a shallower depth with tighter control.
Microwave body contouring is available at Atelier Aesthetics, 1 Raffles Link, #B1-28, CityLink Mall, Singapore 039393. Suitability varies with tissue type, distribution, age and medical history, and is assessed in person by Dr. Sin Yong. WhatsApp +65 8023 7170.

Every course is planned individually. Response varies with tissue type, distribution, age and medical history — suitability is assessed in person before treatment is planned.
