Chin Filler and the V-Shape Face
How Lower-Face Projection Changes the Whole Profile
Chin projection is the single highest-leverage non-surgical change available to most faces — and the one patients least often ask for.
1. A recessive chin makes every other feature look disproportionate
Facial balance is judged in thirds and in profile. When the lower third lacks projection, the nose reads as larger, the jawline as softer and the neck as heavier — none of which are actually the problem.
2. The cervicomental angle explains the double-chin effect
The angle between the underside of the chin and the neck governs how defined the jaw appears. Advancing the chin point opens that angle, which frequently produces more visible improvement than treating submental fat.
3. Frontal and profile goals sometimes conflict
Vertical lengthening improves a short lower third from the front; anterior projection improves the profile. Which one to prioritise is a decision made at consultation, not a default.
4. Filler is appropriate for mild to moderate retrusion only
Significant skeletal retrusion is a surgical problem. Attempting to correct it with filler produces a soft-tissue mound rather than a defined chin.
